AIMCO: Navigating The Disjointed Corporate Ladder

In the Instagram v. Reality of climbing the corporate ladder, the truth is typically much messier than the stock images you see at career fairs or in organizational behaviour text books. The corporate ladder can be more like a game of Donkey Kong – full of obstacles with no direct route to the top. How do we navigate the "barrels and fire" in our career and life to reach our goals? I'll share some of my key failures and successes that have worked, so far.

As Senior Portfolio Manager, Mortgage Investments for Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), Sarah’s primary responsibilities currently include origination and investment in commercial mortgages in Canada, the United States and Europe, while contributing to the strategic direction and portfolio management of the $4.5 billion portfolio. Sarah also serves as AIMCo’s representative at the Investor Leadership Network’s “Diversity in Investment” initiative and is a member of AIMCo’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.
Sarah was previously a Director at Bellwoods Centres for Community Living, a non-profit organization providing community-based, client-directed support services and independent and affordable housing for the physically disabled in Central Toronto. She currently volunteers as Parent Council Treasurer for her sons’ public school and is Co-Chair/Treasurer of the Commercial Mortgage Lenders Association based in Toronto.
Sarah holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia.

Dawn Constantin is vice president of Regulatory Affairs, Partnerships & Low Carbon at BP Energy Company, based in Houston, Texas. In her role, Dawn leads the company's Regulatory
Affairs team across North America. She is sought after internally and externally for her insights, often speaking at customer and industry events. Dawn is also an active mentor within the
organization, sharing her time and advice formally and informally with up-and-coming employees.
Dawn's Regulatory Affairs team advises on evolving policy developments that impact the trading & shipping businesses in Canada, the U.S, Mexico and Brazil. Dawn is also currently
chairman of the Natural Gas Supply Association (NGSA) Business Leadership Committee.
Dawn's remit also includes acting as a liaison between BP's trading & shipping organization and its Production & Operations and Gas & Low Carbon Energy affiliates (among others) on flow assurance and strategic initiatives in support of our company’s net zero
ambition.
Prior to joining BP, Dawn spent four years with TransCanada Pipelines in Calgary, Alberta. She holds her bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (now Dalhousie University). Dawn's 25 years of experience in the energy industry has primarily focused on analytics and influencing corporate planning and strategy.
Dawn is an avid sports enthusiast, along with her husband and 13-year-old daughter.
